A platform to generate high quality content on neighborhoods in big cities, which also helps monetize hyperlocal media by connecting small businesses’ products and services with consumers. This is the project selected by Google for its European Digital News Initiative (DNI) project – driven by Grupo Zeta for the Madrid digital Somos Malasaña and with Cuatroochenta’s technological development.
The platform is designed to help local businesses, the self-employed and certain brands find new customers in their immediate environment and, at the same time, provide monetization options to support hyperlocal journalism. The joint proposal from Grupo Zeta and Cuatroochenta emerged as a result of our collaboration to develop the new digital strategy for one of its regional media, El Periódico Mediterráneo in Castellón, which was presented last October.

For Somos Malasaña, the Spanish digital reference in hyperlocal information since it started in 2009 in the iconic neighborhood in downtown Madrid, Google’s support comes to “reinforce” its firm commitment to “local and high quality online information” .
In addition to Zeta Group, Google’s DNI program has also granted funding to initiatives from other Spanish reference publishers like Prisa (El País, Cadena Ser), Unidad Editorial (El Mundo, Marca, Expansion) or Grupo Godó (La Vanguardia).
