The client: RENFE Fabricación y Mantenimiento (RENFE FyM)
RENFE Fabricación y Mantenimiento (RENFE FyM), the organization responsible for national-level railway maintenance, holds a leading position and is a key reference in the sector. The company is founded on the principles of quality, sustainability, and safety. In respect of sustainability, RENFE FyM operates under a certified Management System (ISO 14001 standard) that encompasses its 50 main centers or Maintenance Bases (MB).
Under the same comprehensive management system, RENFE FyM started out on its environmental certification journey in 2011, initially covering only four maintenance bases. To implement and sustain this management system, RENFE FyM initially employed basic tools such as Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access). However, as the management system expanded in scope, it became impractical to manage the substantial volume of users, data, and information by means of these tools. Finding an alternative solution turned into a high priority.
In 2017, with 44 environmentally certified maintenance bases, the entity made a strategic decision to initiate a tender for a technological platform to automate the management of its system. The contract was awarded in the same year and RENFE FyM integrated FAMA as its platform for environmental process management.
This service contract heralded a significant technological transformation as it automated and centralized the maintenance of all information generated by the management system in an organized and efficient manner. Once the development and parameterization process were completed, the customized adaptation of this solution to meet the specific needs of RENFE FyM was named RENFE FARO.
The challenge
In the integrated and automated management system, acquiring an environmental certification presented a substantial challenge.
Moreover, the need was felt to centralize the management of Environmental Objectives, Audits, and Training Programs. The tool devised for this purpose had to be accessible via the web and boast usability compatible with users at all levels, ranging from executives and technical staff at Central Services to coordination and production staff in the maintenance centers.
In essence, the ultimate solution was designed to seamlessly facilitate and automate the maintenance of RENFE FyM's environmental certificate in a secure and integrated manner. This initiative marked a significant technological transformation, reshaping day-to-day operations in this crucial area.
The solution
Through the FARO Platform, RENFE FyM successfully optimizes work processes, ensuring alignment with the ISO 14001 certification standard. The platform's centralized and traceable database, consolidated within a single tool, facilitates efficiency and adherence to environmental requirements, marking a significant step forward in environmental management.
